| Hello. I am caring for someone who is disabled. Wondering what ways I could find someone to take over the care giving for a short period of time, say a weekend. Are there baby sitters for the elderly? Thanks for any replies. |

i would look in the phone book and look up home health care aides. They do have people that will come in for the weekend and take care of someone or check with the national alliance for aging, they have some good resources for what you are looking for do a search for them on the web as i don't know their address right off the top of my head.
Hope this helps

You are very welcome. Let me know if those leads pan out if not we will work on something else but I am sure that those two leads are probably the best. One thing I forgot to tell you. Be sure to check out anyone that you will have staying with your loved one. You can ask the agency for phone #'s of other people that have use the person that they want to send to you. it is for the safety of your loved one that I urge you to do this.
It is like hiring a babysitter for your children. You just can't trust everyone these days.
Hope you enjoy your vacation. You deserve it

Scarecrow: In Illinois, the University Extension Office coordinates support groups for caregivers and offers a list of sitters to provide respite care. I have used two sitters from the list for my 99 year old mother and they worked out well. Both are CNAs who have worked in nursing homes so they know about things like helping with transfers and watching for danger signals. Our state also has a Department on Aging that can put callers in touch with respite resources. In Ohio, Easter Seals operates Project Breakaway, a program that provides trained respite sitters. Don't give up, there are good people available and caregivers do need a break once in awhile. Good luck.

| Also look at assisted living facilities...the one here offers short-term care...day, weekend, up to a full month. |

They have Elderly Care Services here in Florida. They do the meals on wheels. They also have volenteer sitters. I also found out they have Free legal help for the elderly that are low income. I was surprised at all the things they had for the elderly there I thought it was just meals on wheels. Hope this Helps |
